Installation Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Check the seals and the bearings in the pin bores of the bucket cylinder. If any of these components are worn or damaged use new parts for replacement. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bucket Cylinder - Disassemble" and Disassembly and Assembly, "Bucket Cylinder - Assemble" in this manual.
Make sure the pin bores in the stick, the linkage assembly, and the bucket cylinder are clean and free of dirt prior to the installation of the bucket cylinder.

Fasten two suitable lifting device to bucket cylinder (1). Lower the head end of the bucket cylinder into the brackets on top of the stick. Align the pin bores of the two components.
Apply 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on pin assembly (3). Temporarily install pin assembly (3), the washer, and retaining bolt (2) at the head end of the bucket cylinder.

Check the condition of the O-ring seals in the ends of hose assemblies (4) and (5) prior to installation. If the seals are damaged, use new parts for the replacement. Connect hose assemblies (4) and (5) to bucket cylinder (1).
Lower the rod end of bucket cylinder (1) into the rod linkage. Align the pin bores of the two components.Note: It may be necessary to start the machine. Carefully move the control lever for the bucket cylinder, and align the pin bores of the two components.

Apply 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on pin assembly (7). Temporarily install pin assembly (7), the washer, and retaining bolt (6) at the rod end of the bucket cylinder.Note: Do not remove the hoist and lifting slings from the bucket cylinder at this time.
Slide bucket cylinder (1) to one side until the cylinder comes in contact with the stick bracket, and the rod linkage. Measure the total clearance between the cylinder and the stick bracket. Measure the total clearance between the cylinder and the rod linkage. The total for each measurement must not be more than 1.6 mm (0.06 inch) maximum at each pin bore. Add shims if the total clearance is more than this amount. Do not add shims if the total clearance is less than this amount.
If shims need to be installed, remove retaining bolts (2) and (6), the washers, and pin assemblies (3) and (7). Divide the necessary clearance measurement in half. This measurement is the shim pack thickness that should be installed between the bucket cylinder and the rod linkage at the pin joints on each side of the bucket cylinder.
Apply 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on pin assemblies (3) and (7). Install shims if shims are required. Install pin assemblies (3) and (7), the
