Information:
Step 1. Check Fuel Linkage Travel
Test Procedure:With engine running at Rated Speed, increase load until engine speed decreases to 50 rpm less than Rated. Check for fuel linkage travel. Expected Results:Full fuel linkage travel (against stop screw). Step 2. Manual Linkage Check
Test Procedure:Disconnect fuel linkage from actuator lever. Check fuel linkage manually for high effort or binding. See Service Procedure E. Expected Results:Linkage moves with low effort with no binding thru full travel. Step 3. Manual Actuator Lever Check
Test Procedure:Manually check lever movement for high effort and full travel. Also check, with linkage held against stop screw, actuator lever has some extra travel beyond the linkage stop. Expected Results:Correct range of travel available with smooth movement through full range. Step 4. Variable Resistance Check of External Components
Test Procedure:Put identification on the leads that follow, and then remove these leads from the 2301 Control. Now put a jumper across each set of the above terminals. Start and run the engine under load. Expected Results:Fuel linkage against stop screw and engine at full power. Step 5. Actuator Voltage Check (With Load) at Control
Test Procedure:Load engine until speed decreases to less than Rated Speed. Measure actuator voltage at 2301 Control terminals T16 and T17 (T5 and T6, Standby unit). Expected Results:Measured voltage more than 6 VDC. Step 6. Actuator Amperage Check (Without Load) at Control
Test Procedure:Run engine at High Idle and measure actuator amperage at 2301 Control terminals T16 and T17 (T5 & T6, Standby unit). Expected Results:Amperage to be less than 60 ma at High Idle. Step 7. Actuator Oil Pressure Output Check
Test Procedure:Remove the test pressure plug from actuator and install 6V2044 Test Pressure Gauge. Now crank the engine and read pressure gauge. For the correct pressure range, see ACTUATOR SPECIFICATIONS in Service Procedure D. Expected Results:Correct oil pressure with constant output. Step 8. Check Actuator Oil Supply Circuit and Mechanical Drive
Test Procedure:See Service Procedure D to check actuator functions that follow: a. Correct oil supply.b. Plugged drain.c. Oil too thin.d. Drive has rotation.e. Correct direction of rotation.f. Damage to Coupling or Splines.Engine compartment oil sump must be full, and suction line must be open and without air leaks (caused by faulty gaskets or loose fittings). Actuator oil drain must drain freely. Expected Results:To find problem with the actuator drive or oil circuit.
