Stopping the engine immediately after it has been working under load can result in overheating and accelerated wear of engine components.Refer to the following procedure to allow the engine to cool and to prevent excessive temperatures in the turbocharger housing, which could cause oil coking problems.
Stop the machine and run the engine at low idle for five minutes.
Never turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position while the engine is running. Serious damage to the electrical system may result.

Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position and remove the engine start switch key.Note: Caterpillar recommends stopping the engine by turning the engine start switch to the OFF position. Caterpillar only recommends stopping the engine with the engine stop control when the engine start switch has not stopped the engine.Engine Stop Control

Locate the engine stop switch below the left side of the operator seat.

Lift cover (1) .
Push switch (2) upward. This should stop the engine.
Return the switch to the original position. The engine will be enabled to start.Note: Do not operate the machine again until the malfunction has been corrected.

The fuel shutoff valve is located under the fuel tank.Turn the fuel shutoff valve in a clockwise direction in order to shut off the fuel supply. The engine may continue to run for a few minutes after you have performed this procedure. The engine will stop after the engine has consumed all of the fuel that was contained in the fuel line.Repair the engine before you restart the engine. The fuel system may need to be primed. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime" for instructions.
