Introduction
This Special Instruction provides the necessary information required to change the pitch angle of the dozer blade on D3C and D4C Tractors. The lower pivot point of the C-Frame is an adjustable joint that provides a mechanical pitch adjustment.Machines are shipped with the standard cutting edge angle of 60°. Adding shims to the pivot point moves the bottom of the blade forward resulting in the blade being "pitched back". Removing shims moves the bottom of the blade back resulting in the blade being "pitched forward". The extra shims should be stored in the machine tool box.Positions of Pitch Adjustment Obtainable
Layback Position
The cutting edge angle is 56° and provides for a better carry of soft material. This angle is obtained by installing 12 mm (.47 in) and 25 mm (.98 in) shims.Standard Position
The cutting edge angle is 60° and provides optimum performance for normal conditions. This angle is obtained by installing 12 mm (.47 in) shims.Penetrate Position
The cutting edge angle is 62° and provides improved penetration in hard materials. This angle is obtained by removing all shims.Adjustment
Adding Shims
To avoid possible personal injury, Do Not remove all four mounting bolts at one time. Follow the recommended procedure to add shims.
1. Loosen the four mounting bolts (A) an amount equal to the thickness of the shims to be added. Do Not disengage the bolts.2. Backdrag the machine slowly to slide bracket (B) out of the C-Frame. 3. Remove two mounting bolts (A) from one side. Install shim (C) and two bolts (A). Repeat this for the other side.4. Tighten all four bolts (A) to 340 68 N m (250 50 lb ft).Removing Shims
To avoid possible personal injury, Do Not remove all four mounting bolts at one time. Follow the recommended procedure to remove shims.
1. Loosen four bolts (A) enough to loosen shims (C). Do Not disengage the bolts. 2. Remove two bolts (A) from one side. Remove shim (C), and install the bolts. Repeat this for the other side.3. Move the machine forward slowly to slide the bracket into the C-Frame.4. Tighten all four bolts (A) to 340 68 N m (250 50 lb ft).
