Introduction
This Special Instruction contain information for converting an older electronic control PA55 and Carco 50B winches for installation on the following D6N Track-Type Tractors:

The older style electronic control module supplied by PACCAR winch is no longer used on Tier 4i tractors, since the functionality is now controlled by the tractor ECM.The wiring harness operating the hydraulic control valve inside the winch must be replaced with 381-7641 Control Harness As . A new 120-7543 Gasket is required since the side cover must be removed to gain access to the valve.To be compatible with CAT diagnostics, each solenoid now has a unique dedicated circuit with power and ground leads. This new circuit allows the tractor ECM to measure current, and determine if one solenoid is within operating specifications. Previous electronic control winches had the solenoid ground wired in series, which does not allow the ECM to monitor the solenoids.All winches built before September 2008 must install 104-3008 Temperature Sender As in the hydraulic control valve inside the winch case.After parts are installed, the winch function must be activated in the tractor ECM.Tractors come in at least three configurations: Winch Ready, Ripper Ready and Non-Winch Ready. Winch ready tractors will require the least amount of parts to install the winch. The ripper ready will require more parts, and the Non-winch ready tractors will require the most parts. typically consisting of all winch controls, placards, lights, and wiring harnesses.Use appropriate filter relocation kit from CAT.Record the serial number and notify PACCAR Technical Support of changes at (918) 251-8511.D6N Specific Information
Carco began shipping winches for Tier 4i D6N machines in February of 2012.D6N tractors use the same 378-8521 Handle Control Gp to control both the ripper and winch functions. If the tractor is winch or ripper ready, this joystick should be factory installed in the cab. This existing ripper joystick operated raise and lower to control the reel in and reel out functions of the winch. An extra toggle switch must be added to the control console, since the joystick lacks the additional left/right axis to control freespool and brake-off (driveaway) functions.Required Parts
