Remove the front bottom guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bottom Guard - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Drain the fuel tank in a suitable container for storage or for disposal. The capacity of the fuel tank is 630 L (166 US gal).

Remove bolts (1) that hold cover (3) to the frame.
Remove bolts (2) from cover (3) .
Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the other side of the machine.

Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to cover (3). Remove cover (3). The weight of cover (3) is approximately 70 kg (150 lb).

Remove tube assemblies (4), (5), (6), and (7) .
Disconnect harness assemblies (8) and (9). Separate harnesses (8) and (9) from the fuel tank.
Disconnect tube assemblies (10) and (11) .
Disconnect hose assemblies (12), (13) and (14) from the pilot valve. Separate hose assembly (12) from plate (16) .
Remove bolts (15) from both side of the machine.

Remove clips (17). Disconnect harness assembly (18) and separate harness assembly (18) from the fuel tank.

Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to plate (16). Remove plate (16). The weight of plate (16) is approximately 125 kg (276 lb).

Remove bolts (19) from fuel tank (20) .

Disconnect hose assemblies (21) and (22) from the shutoff valves. Remove hose clips (23) .

Remove bolts (24) from the bottom of the fuel tank.

Remove bolts (25) and turn light assembly (26) by 90 degrees. Reinstall bolts (25). This will provide clearance for the removal of the fuel tank.

Fasten Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to fuel tank (20), as shown.
Remove fuel tank (20). The weight of fuel tank (20) is approximately 260 kg (573 lb).
