Turn the final drive until the drain plug is on the bottom. Remove the drain plug and drain the oil from the final drive into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

Remove three bolts (1) from the center of cover (3). Remove three bolts (2) and cover (3) from the final drive.

Remove spiral lockring (5), ring (6), and retainer (5).

Install Tooling (A) on the axle. Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A). Remove the axle (7). The weight of the axle (7) is approximately 23 kg (50 lb).
Repeat this procedure for the removal of the axle from the other side of the machine.Installation Procedure

Inspect Tooling (A) and axle shaft assemblies. Remove any nicks or burrs on the outside diameter. The outside diameters should be smooth to avoid damaging the lip type seal for the axle (7).
Apply Tooling (B) to the chamfers, the spines, and the bearing. Use only Tooling (B) or oil to lubricate these areas.Note: Do not use any grease which may leave a residue that will reduce the performance of the seal.
Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the axle (7). The weight of axle (7) is approximately 23 kg (51 lb).
Align the axle (7) with the splines in the steering clutch and brake. Align with the final drive. Then install axle (7).

Put retainer (5) and ring (6) in position and install spiral lock ring (4).

Install the O-ring seals for cover (3).
Out cover (3) in position on the final drive and install three bolts (2) and three bolts (1).
Repeat this procedure for the installation of the axle on the other side of the machine.
Fill the final drive with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Final Drive Oil - Change" for the correct filling procedure.
