Information:
TYPE="LEVEL" DEPTH="1" @@@-->If the generator revolving field poles lose residual magnetism, the magnetism may be restored by "flashing" the revolving field windings with a direct current 12-volt source (battery).
DO NOT OPEN OR CLOSE THE CONTROL CONSOLE WITH THE ENGINE-GENERATOR OPERATING. When the generator is operating, there are many electrically charged components in the control console. Physical contact with any of these parts could result in component damage or personal injury.
Static Flashing
With the engine stopped, disconnect leads (F1) and (F2) from terminals F- and F+). Connect the positive "+" lead of the 12-volt source to wire (F2). Momentarily apply (two or three times) the negative lead of the source to wire (F1). Correct polarity must be maintained (F2) is positive "+" and F1 is negative "-"). If the polarity of the field is reversed, the field will not be energized.Dynamic Flashing
A more positive method of flashing the field can be affected by applying the DC source to the field while the engine is operating at low idle RPM.With the engine stopped, connect an accurate AC voltmeter to the single phase, 115 volt outlet on the side of the control console. Disconnect the load switch. Connect the positive "+" lead of the 12-volt source to wire (F2) and the negative "-" lead to wire (F1). Start the engine and observe the voltmeter. When the voltmeter begins to show voltage, carefully disconnect the DC source. (An OFF-ON switch in the DC source would be beneficial.) Stop the engine and reconnect wire (F1 and (F2).
