777 TrucksDescription of Change: A different electrical circuit is now used for the starter on 776 Tractors and 777 Trucks. The new circuit permits the engine to be started while the transmission shift lever is in positions other than neutral. Formerly, it was not possible to engage the starter unless the shift lever was in the neutral position. The new circuit design makes the starter operate the same on these models as on other Caterpillar wheel tractors and trucks. Like the other models, if the engine is started while the shift lever is in any position other than neutral, the lever must be moved to the neutral position before the transmission can be engaged. This prevents possible movement of the machine by accident.Adaptable To: The new electrical circuit is in effect on 776 Tractors 14H136-Up and 777 Trucks 84A560-Up. The schematic of the new circuit is shown in a new Service Manual module "Schematics for 776 Tractor, 776 Wagon & 777 Truck Electrical System--Serial Numbers: 776 Tractor, 14H136-Up; 776 Wagon, 14W1-Up; 777 Truck, 84A560-Up", Form SENR2070. Make a note of the change to the electrical circuit, and its effect on operation of the starter, in the electrical system topic of the "Power Train Systems Operation--Testing and Adjusting" module, Form SENR7158-02, of the Service Manual. Also, make a note of the change in the topic on starting the engine in the Operation Guide for the machine.
