1. Lift the front end of the machine until the front suspension cylinders are fully extended.2. Turn the steering wheel so that distance (A), from the pin center of tie rod (4) to the rear surface of the front axle, is the same as distance (B), from the pin center of tie rod (5) to the rear surface of the front axle.3. Check the position of pitman arm (3) of the steering gear. Put a straight edge along the marks on the end of the steering gear shaft and the pitman arm. If the pitman arm is in the correct position, the straight edge will be in alignment with the center of the center bolt that holds steering gear housing (2) in place.4. If pitman arm (3) is not in the correct position, disconnect link group (1) from the pitman arm. Turn pitman arm (3) until it is in the correct position. Adjust the length of link group (1) and connect it to the pitman arm. Check to see if distance (A) is still the same as distance (B). When the steering is centered, pitman arm (3) is NOT in a vertical position. A second method can be used if the marks on pitman arm (3) and the steering gear shaft cannot be seen. Disconnect link group (1) from the pitman arm. Count the number of rotations it takes to turn the steering wheel from stop to stop. Turn the steering wheel one-half the number of stop to stop rotations. Adjust the length of link group (1) and connect it to the pitman arm.5. Measure dimensions (C) and (D). Toe-out, dimension (C), should be 2.31 in. (58.7 mm) longer than dimension (D).6. If the toe-out is not correct, adjust rods (4) and (5) to get the correct toe-out. The length of rods (4) and (5) must be the same when the toe-out is correct. This adjustment will provide the correct toe-in as the suspension moves through its normal range of operation when the suspension cylinders have the correct charge.7. Tighten the adjustment lock bolts on the tie rods.
