PROBLEM
Some 289-0008 puller studs have been found to have quench cracks which could cause the puller stud to fail at less than the rated capacity.
ACTION REQUIRED
Dealers should remove all new and used 289-0008 Puller Studs with a manufacturing date code prior to August, 2008 from their parts inventory and service facilities.
The date code is stamped in a Month Day Year format. Refer to Image1 for an example of date code identification.
The date code shown in Image1 is:
1 21 08 (January 21, 2008).
60T represents 60 Ton load capacity.
Dealers should also attempt to identify and notify any customers who have purchased one or more of the 289-0008 Puller Studs to remove the affected puller studs from service as well.
When submitting a claim for Parts Stock Action, use the 99Z00025 as the s/n, the appropriate Service Letter Program Number as the part number, "7751" as the group number, "56" as the warranty claim description code, and "T" as the SIMS description code.

SERVICE CLAIM ALLOWANCES
Submit one claim for all parts removed from dealer parts stock.
PARTS DISPOSITION
Affected parts removed from Dealer and Customer inventory should be scrapped immediately.
