Caterpillar is receiving field reports of problems that indicate a problem with the sensor that is used with the left brake pedal. The reports state:
The sensor will not calibrate.
The sensor is erratic.
The sensor is open.
The sensor is shorted.A CID 670 diagnostic code has been reported. A CID 1693 diagnostic code has been reported.The following feedback information has also been reported.
There is transmission shifting problems.
The torque converter was hot.
There is low impeller clutch pressure.Actual Problem
Inadequate clearance between the sensor that is used for the left brake pedal and the hole that is in the platform may cause damage to the sensor.The sensor that is used for the left brake pedal is 214-4863 Position Sensor Gp .Solution
If a 214-4863 Position Sensor Gp failure occurs, inspect the clearance between the sensor and the hole that is in the platform.If inadequate clearance exists between the sensor that is used on the left brake pedal and the hole that is in the platform, use a hand file, a die grinder, or a similar tool in order to create a bevel in the hole that is in the platform. Create a 6 mm (0.24 inch) wide chamfer. The chamfer must have a 45 degree angle. Refer to Illustration 1.The new chamfer must provide the proper amount of clearance for the sensor.The sensor must be replaced if the sensor is not working properly.
