Schematic of the rear track position sensorThis diagnostic code is associated with the rear track position sensor. The FMI F01 means that the ECM has determined that the signal of the sensor is below the normal range or the sensor signal is shorted to ground. The possible causes of this failure are listed below:
A +battery circuit from the electrical system to the sensor is open.
The signal circuit of the sensor is shorted to the ground.
The sensor has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 744 FMI F01 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.System Response:The machine response is listed below:
A Category 2 warning is shown on the computerized monitoring system (CMS) for the solenoid.
A fault on the rear track position sensor will only allow steering in the REAR position.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SENSOR
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Check the status of the CID 744 FMI F01.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the sensor.
Observe the status of the CID 744 FMI F01.Expected Result:The CID 744 FMI F01 diagnostic code remains active.Results:
OK - The diagnostic code remains active. The machine harness or ECM may have failed. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The diagnostic code is no longer active.Repair: The sensor has failed. Replace the sensor. Verify that the new sensor has corrected the problem.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT OF THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
The machine harness connector remains disconnected from the sensor.
Disconnect the machine harness from the ECM.
Measure the resistance from the contact 4 (wire L921-GN) to the frame ground (wire 200-BK).Expected Result:The resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
OK - The resistance measurements are greater than 5000 ohms. The circuit is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is less than 5000 ohms. The signal circuit is shorted to another circuit in the machine harness. The possible sources of the ground are contacts (wire 229-BK) and the frame ground (wire 200-BK).Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS
Inspect and clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Enter diagnostic mode of the computerized profiler control ECM and clear all inactive diagnostic codes.
Operate the machine.
Check the status of the CID 744 FMI F01.Expected Result:The CID 744 FMI F01 is active.Results:
OK - The CID 744 FMI F01 is active. The diagnostic code has not been corrected. The ECM may have failed.Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Refer to the Electrical Schematic of the machine and check all
