4. Remove engine oil cooler (3) and tubes as a unit.5. Remove engine crankcase breather (1).6. Remove clip and fastening bolts from oil level gauge tube. Remove oil level gauge and tube.7. Remove the two air bleed lines from fuel filter housing.8. Remove the oil cooler elbow from the block (2).9. Remove fastening bolts from side cover. Remove side cover. 10. Turn the crankshaft until rod cap (4) is in position as shown. 11. Remove nuts and cap from rod. Remove lower half of bearing from cap.12. Push the connecting rod away from the crankshaft and remove the upper half of bearing.
Use care when pushing rod away from crankshaft not to damage crankshaft with the rod bolt threads.
Install Connecting Rod Bearings
1. Install upper half of bearing in connecting rod.2. Install lower half of bearing in cap.3. Put 5B1161 Wire across bearing.4. Install connecting rod cap, bearing and wire. Don't install cap backwards! Bearing locating tangs must be on same side of connecting rod.5. Put SAE 30 engine oil on the threads of the bolts, nuts and install. Tighten nuts evenly to 50 5 lb.ft. (6,9 0,7 mkg). Tighten each nut an additional 180° 10°.6. Remove connecting rod cap.7. Remove wire from cap bearing and measure the wire thickness. The wire thickness (bearing clearance) should be .0029 to .0060 in. (0,094 to 0,152 mm) and must not exceed .010 in. (0,25 mm).8. Put SAE 30 engine oil on bearing in cap and crankshaft journal.9. Install rod cap and tighten nuts the same as in Step 5.10. Steps 1 through 9 are the same for all rod bearings.11. Install side cover, oil cooler elbow, two bleed lines on fuel filter housing.12. Install oil gauge and tube, clip and crankcase breather.13. Install engine oil cooler and tubes as a unit on engine and install fastening bolts in cooler bonnet.14. Install two hose clamps on cooler bonnet and fastening bolts in oil elbow.end by: a) install oil filter base
