TRANSMISSION ARRANGEMENT 3Y1126 - Caterpillar

1. Remove idler ring assembly (bearings) (1) from spur gear (2). 2. Remove sleeve (3) from spur gear (2). 3. Remove needle cage (bearing) (4) from spur gear (2). 4. Remove spur gear (2) from the plate carrier (clutch housing). Thrust plate (5) can be with the plate carrier (clutch housing) or the spur gear.5. Remove thrust plate (5). 6. Remove thrust washer (6) from spur gear (2).7. To disassemble the plate carrier (clutch housing) see DISASSEMBLE PLATE CARRIER (CLUTCH HOUSING).Assemble Third Speed Clutch Assembly
1. To assemble the plate carrier (clutch housing), see ASSEMBLE PLATE CARRIER (CLUTCH HOUSING).2. Make sure all the parts of the clutch assembly are clean. Put clean oil on the parts. Inspect all parts for damage and make replacements if needed. 3. Install thrust washer (1) in spur gear (2). Put clean grease on the thrust washer to hold it in place. 4. Install thrust plate (3) on the plate carrier (clutch housing) with the flat side up.
Do not use force to install the spur gear. Move the spur gear backward and forward while the spur gear is pushed down into the plate carrier (clutch housing) until the teeth on the inner discs (plates) are in alignment with the splines on the spur gear.
5. Install spur gear (2) until the thrust washer and thrust plate make contact. 6. Install needle cage (bearing) (4) in the spur gear. 7. Install sleeve (5) in the spur gear. Make sure the grooves (slots) in the sleeve are toward the needle cage (bearing). 8. Install roller ring assembly (bearings) (6) in spur gear (2). Use clean grease to hold the roller ring assembly (bearings) (6) in place.end by:a) install third speed clutch assembly **See ASSEMBLE TRANSMISSION.
