Cylinder Flow Adjustment
Illustration 1 g00652865
Steering control valve (1) Flow balance shims (2) Cylinder flow shims (3) End cover
Stop the engine and make sure that the hydraulic pressure has been released. Vent the hydraulic tank.
Remove end cover (3) from the steering control valve.
Adjust the thickness of cylinder flow shims (2). The addition of shims will decrease the steering time.
Install end cover (3) and check the steering time. Adjust the cylinder flow adjustment if it is necessary.Flow Balance Adjustment

Steering control valve (1) Flow balance shims (2) Cylinder flow shims (3) End cover
Stop the engine and make sure that the hydraulic pressure has been released. Vent the hydraulic tank.
Remove end cover (3) from the steering control valve.
Adjust the thickness of flow balance shims (1). The addition of shims will decrease the right turning time and the addition of shims will also increase the left turning time.
Install end cover (3) and check the steering times. Adjust the flow balance adjustment if it is necessary.Steering Slip
Stop the engine and make sure that the hydraulic pressure has been released.
Remove end cover (3) from the steering control valve.
Remove the spool from the steering control valve.
Flip the spool and install the spool in the opposite orientation. The spring, the retainer, and the shims must be moved to the opposite end of the spool.
Test the steering slip. See Testing and Adjusting, SENR8680, "Operation Checks". If the steering slip is still unacceptable, inspect the steering control valve and the steering metering pump for excessive wear.
