The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified.Problem
The parking brake may prematurely wear on products listed above. The premature wear is caused by depressing the emergency brake causing the parking brake to be applied as the Terra Class Articulated Trucks have integrated park brake release in the shift lever.Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem and is recommending the following interim corrective solution.Follow the below given updated starting and shutdown procedure for Terra Class Articulated Trucks to ensure that the emergency brake button is disengaged prior to starting the machine.
Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.
Procedure to Start Terra Class Articulated Trucks

(A) Engine shutdown switch
(B) Battery disconnect switch
Ensure that the battery disconnect switch (B) and engine shutdown switch (A) are in ON position as shown in Illustration 1.

(C) Park Mode
Inside the cab, ensure that the gear shift is in park mode (C) as shown in Illustration 2.

(D) Emergency brake button
Ensure that the emergency brake is disengaged by pulling out emergency brake button (D) as shown in Illustration 3.
Turn ignition key position to position 4 on the panel.Procedure to Shutdown Terra Class Articulated Trucks
Ensure gearshift is in park mode.
Do not engage emergency brake.
Turn Ignition key to position 2 on the panel. Do not turn to position 1, and wait for engine to stop.

(E) DEF Purge lamp
After engine has stopped wait until DEF purge lamp (E) to extinguish (HRC only) before engaging the battery disconnect switch.
