Information:
Use this procedure if any one of the diagnostic codes in Table 1 is active.
Table 1
Diagnostic Codes Table
Description Conditions which Generate this Code System Response
268-2 Check Programmable Parameters The engine's Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects that one or more of the programmable parameters have not been programmed. The ECM may use a default torque map or the ECM may limit the engine to low idle.
The code is active only.
253-2 Personality Module mismatch The flash file in the engine's ECM is for a different type of engine. The interlock code in the non-volatile memory does not match the flash file.
or
The flash file is not compatible with the ECM. The interlock for the personality module code must be set to zero in order to reset the code. Factory passwords are required to change the interlock code.
The code is active only. The engine may not run.
1495-2 Injector Trim Codes Not Programmed The engine's ECM detects that one or more of the injector trim codes have not been programmed. The ECM may use a default torque map or the ECM may limit the engine to low idle.
The code is active only. Some system configuration parameters are configurable by the customer in order to suit the customer's particular application. The configuration file contains all of the adjustable settings for the monitoring system. The engine is shipped from the factory with default values for these parameters. In most cases, the parameters do not need to be changed. The system configuration parameters must be reprogrammed if an ECM is replaced and/or the engine rating is reprogrammed. System configuration parameters do not need to be reprogrammed if the flash file is replaced. Proper values for these parameters are available on Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). Certain configuration parameters are also stamped on the engine information plate. If the default settings for the parameters have been modified, there will be no record at the factory of the changes. These settings can be downloaded into a laptop computer and saved to a file. The customer can then use the file in order to facilitate replacement of the ECM.Note: Changing the parameters that are protected by factory passwords may cause your Caterpillar warranty to be voided.
Check Programmable Parameters (268-02)
If a parameter has not been programmed, the ECM will activate a 268-02 diagnostic code. The unprogrammed parameters will be set to default. Certain aspects of the engine's performance and engine monitoring may be affected.Personality Module Mismatch (253-02)
The ECM stores a code number in permanent memory. This code is called an interlock code that is associated with each flash file. The interlock code does not allow the engine to run if the wrong flash file has been downloaded into the ECM.Cat ET will warn you if a flash file that does not match the last file in the ECM has been downloaded. The interlock code must be reprogrammed with Cat ET in order to allow the engine to run with new software. Installing the incorrect flash file into the ECM may void the
