(1) Torque for 16 bolts that fasten the disc to the wheel assembly ... 270 25 N m (200 18 lb ft)(2) Rubber toric seals and all surfaces in contact with them must be clean and dry at assembly. Put a thin layer of oil on the surfaces of the metal seals that are in contact just before installation. Put lubricant on all other seals at assembly.(3) See Adjustment Of The Wheel Bearings.(4) Torque for 16 bolts that fasten the brakes and spindles to the axle housing ... 270 25 N m (200 18 lb ft)(5) Torque for six bolts that fasten cover assembly to carrier ... 45 7 N m (33 5 lb ft)(6) Diameter of new planet shaft ... 42.316 0.008 mm (1.6660 .0003 in.)(7) Round steel washers must be assembled adjacent to the gear.(8) Torque for 12 bolts that fasten the carrier to wheel assembly ... 270 25 N m (200 18 lb ft)(9) Inside diameter of new planet gear ... 51.872 0.010 mm (2.0422 .0004 in.)Adjustment Of The Wheel Bearings
To correctly adjust the wheel bearings, the brake group must be removed from the axle housing and the rim and tire must also be removed.6V4074 Spanner Wrench1. Lubricate bearing (2) and (4).2. Install wheel assembly (3) on spindle (1).3. Install hub (7) and nut (6).4. Put a nut on bolt (8).5. Rotate wheel assembly (3) to seat the wheel bearing rollers against the cone back face rib.6. To seat the parts, tighten nut (6) to 600 N m (440 lb ft) while rotating wheel assembly (3).7. Loosen nut (6). The Rolling Torque method is used to check the wheel bearing adjustment. Using a torque wrench placed on bolt (8) rotate wheel assembly (3) and adjust nut (6) until the specified torque is obtained. In order to obtain correct torque measurements the torque wrench must be held 8 inches from the square drive.8. Using a torque wrench on bolt (8) rotate wheel assembly (3). Grip the torque wrench 8 inches from the square drive. Record the rolling torque required to continuously turn the wheel. This is the seal drag rolling torque.9. Tighten nut (6) to 150 N m (110 lb ft) while rotating wheel assembly (3).10. Tighten or loosen nut (6) to the nearest locking position.11. Tighten nut (6) 1/8 turn (45 degrees).12. Using a torque wrench on bolt (8) rotate wheel assembly (3). Grip the torque wrench 8 inches from the square drive. Record the rolling torque required to continuously turn the wheel. This is the rolling torque for the wheel assembly.13. Subtract the seal drag rolling torque obtained in Step 8 from the wheel assembly rolling torque obtained in Step 12. This is the wheel bearing preload rolling torque.14. The wheel bearing preload rolling torque should be 8.5 N m (75 lb in) for new bearings or 5 N m (45 lb in) for used bearings.15. Install lock
