Procedure To Remove The Countershaft Transmission Pressure Control Valve Without Removing The Engine/Transmission Assembly From The Vehicle
See the appropriate Reference and the procedure which follows to remove the pressure control valve without removing the engine/transmission assembly from the vehicle.
1. Identify and then disconnect the wires going to the solenoids at the Sure-Seal® connectors.2. Remove as many as possible of the 17 hex head bolts securing the transmission control valve to the transmission. The four long bolts securing the dump valve and several of the shorter hex head bolts can not be completely removed in the vehicle.3. Install rubber bands around the bolts to keep them out of the way. This will permit the assembly to be removed easier.Do NOT remove the three allen head bolts. These hold the dump valve, control body, and manifold together as an assembly. The control assembly will not slide off of the transmission deck after removing the bolts. This is because there are several dowels between the manifold and the transmission deck.
