Illustration 1. Steering group.1. Drain the hydraulic tank below the level of tank manifold (3).2. Remove former hose assemblies (6) and (9).3. Remove tank manifold (3).4. Install fitting (7) and sump strainer (8). The strainer must be inside the hydraulic tank when installing the strainer onto the fitting. See "Fitting Assembly Instructions."5. Apply a generous amount of 4C5300 Sealant to tank manifold (3). Install the manifold (with the new sump strainer) onto the hydraulic tank.6. Install the remainder of the new parts listed in the chart.7. Fill the hydraulic tank with hydraulic oil. Refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual for oil specifications.

a. Cut tube (13) squarely and deburr the end internally and externally.
Illustration 3. Correct assembly of fittings.b. Slip nut (12) and ferrule (11) onto tube (13). Be sure that the long straight end of the ferrule points toward the end of the tube. Be sure to use the fitting and ferrule as a set. Do no reuse a fitting to set numerous ferrules.c. Use 2P2506 Thread Compound to lubricate the threads on fitting (10) and both ends of the ferrule.d. Insert tube (13) into fitting (10) until it contacts the shoulder of the fitting. Tighten nut (12) finger tight. The tube must be bottomed against the fitting, or the ferrule will not "bite" into the tube correctly.e. With a wrench, tighten nut (12) 1 3/4 turns to preset the ferrule. Reliable make-up of all flareless fittings is dependent upon the ferrule traveling into the tube and achieving a positive grip and seal. Wrench torques should never be used as the gauge for reliable make-up.f. Inspect as shown in "Inspection After Presetting."Inspection After Presetting
g. Disassemble the fitting to make sure you have the proper bite. The parts must display the following characteristics.h. A ridge of metal has been raised above the tube surfaces to a height of at least 50% of the thickness of the ferrule's leading edge, completely around the tube at position (D).
Illustration 4. Correct ferrule installation.j. While the leading edge of the ferrule may be coined flat at position (A), there is a slight bow to the balance of the pilot section (B).k. The tail or back end of the ferrule is snug against the tube at position (E).l. There is a slight indentation all around the end of the tube at position (C) that indicates the tube was bottomed in the tool or fitting during presetting (unless evidence of this complete contact is visible the ferrule cannot be considered correctly preset).m. The ferrule may be rotated on the tube but should no be capable of moving back and forth along the tube beyond the bite area. And when rotated one-half turn, there should never be an even gap between ferrule and bit.Reassemble Fitting for Final Installation
n. Insert the tube into the fitting body and tighten the nut down easily until a sudden increase in torque is evident. From this point, turn the nut an additional one-sixth turn
