See the article that follows.This publication has been written in order to inform the Caterpillar dealers of the proper method of cleaning a plugged Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) that has exhaust back pressure that is too high for effectively performing a regeneration. This condition is caused by a failure of the regeneration system.The DPF should be cleaned when a regeneration cannot be performed due to a plugged DPF. The Caterpillar Diesel Particulate Filter Ash Cleaning Tool should be utilized in order to properly clean a plugged DPF. Clean the DPF and then perform a stationary regeneration.Note: DO NOT reset the ash model after the DPF has been cleaned in the Caterpillar Diesel Particulate Filter Ash Cleaning Tool. There is a high possibility that the ash is still in the trap.Note: This procedure is in conflict with directions that are stated on the Diesel Particulate Filter Ash Cleaning Tool. The directions on the machine say not to clean a DPF unless the Ash Service Regen has been performed. This procedure is an exception in order to prevent unnecessary replacement of the DPF. This procedure enables faster repair times.
