Schematic of the Vibratory System Speed DialThis diagnostic code is associated with the Vibratory System Speed Dial. The FMI 04 means that the Implement (Screed) ECM has determined that the voltage of the circuit for the speed dial is below normal. Note: The Implement (Screed) ECM is located under the Screed Platform. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The signal circuit for the speed dial is shorted to ground.
The speed dial has failed.
The ECM has failed. This situation is unlikely. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure, and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 2575 FMI 04 is active before performing this procedure. Note: Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.System Response:When this diagnostic code is active, the following occurs:
Vibratory motor speed will maintain pre-fault setting until the propel lever returns to neutral.
When the propel lever returns to neutral, motor speed will operate at 50% setting.
Operator station fault lamp is active.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SPEED DIAL
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the Vibratory System Speed Dial from the machine harness.
Connect positive (Red) lead of a multimeter to the "B" contact of the Dial connector.
Connect the negative (Black) lead of the multimeter to "C" contact of the Dial connector.
Rotate the Dial from full counter-clockwise (Minimum) position to full clockwise (Maximum) position.Expected Result:The resistance should start at 0 ohms at the minimum setting of the Dial. As the Dial is rotated, the resistance will increase to 1000 200 ohms at the maximum dial setting. Results:
OK - The resistance should start at 0 ohms at the minimum setting of the speed dial. As the Dial is rotated, the resistance will increase to 1000 200 ohms at the maximum dial setting. The Dial is operating correctly. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The resistance measurements for the dial are NOT correct.Repair: Replace the speed dial.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE WIRING HARNESS OF THE SPEED DIAL FOR A SHORT TO GROUND.
The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
The Dial remains disconnected from the machine harness.
Disconnect the J1 machine harness connector from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from the signal contact J1-30 (wire C925-GN) of the machine harness to all possible sources of ground. Measure the resistance to all contacts of the machine harness connectors for the ECM.Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is
