Introduction
This Special Instructions contains the information to install an asphalt screed onto an F series asphalt paver.Cat dealers may order the asphalt paver and screeds separately, and connect the two together. The installation of screeds to the F Series has several highlights. These highlights would also be applicable when installing a Weiler front-mounted extender screed.Safety
Improper operation, lubrication, maintenance or repair of this product can be dangerous and could result in injury or death.Do not operate or perform any lubrication, maintenance or repair on this product, until you have read and understood the operation, lubrication, maintenance and repair information.
Screed to Paver Bolt Pattern Option
Illustration 1 g03887942The F series screeds have two sets of bolt patterns on the screed drop arms. The bolt pattern used depends on the application desired.
For paving applications requiring a mat thickness of less than 203 mm (8 inch), select bolt pattern A. This position is the most common.
For paving applications that require deep paving, or mat thickness of greater than 203 mm (8 inch), select bolt pattern B.Installation Procedure
Illustration 2 g03887961
Connect and clamp screed heat power cable (1). Use screed heat tools as outlined in table 1 of Disassembly and Assembly, UENR5583, "Screed Remove and Install", "Installation Procedure". For additional information on servicing these connectors see Special Instruction, REHS9161, "Procedure to Properly Connect and Disconnect the High-Voltage Connectors on "F" Series Asphalt Pavers". Install the cap that was removed from the screed high connector on to the High-voltage interlock connector that was removed from the tractor power cable. Installing the cap will keep both of these connectors clean and dry. Connect ground strap to the frame stud. Connect control harness (2).
Make hydraulic connections at rear of paver frame.Note: The paver may be configured as "Tamper Ready". If connecting a vibratory screed, there will be two unused hydraulic connections on the rear frame of the paver.
Illustration 3 g03888009
Reconfigure the three CAN resistors on the paver (3). Inside the paver, on the rear frame plate, there are six connectors. Three connectors contain CAN resistors and the other three are empty connectors. The three harness leads are connected to the CAN resistors when no screed is attached. After the screed is attached switch all three harness leads to the blank plugs.

Typical location shown
Configure Ethernet loop plug on screed. If Cat Grade control is present, remove the 12-pin connector with two sets of loop wires (4). There is a blank 12-pin plug that comes with the Cat Grade Control kit. This plug goes in place of the connector with loop wires. Reference Special Instruction, SEHS0168 for Cat Grade Control Installation. If Cat Grade Control is not being installed, the 12-pin connector with loop wires remains in place.
Configure material feed sensors. Ensure that the number of material feed sensors matches what the machine will be equipped with. (2, or 4). Configure the sensors from the home screen as follows:Touch the paver icon, then settings, then material feed, then number of sensors. Select "0","2", or "4".Zero sensors: There are no material feed sensors available
