Fasten lifting straps and a hoist to stick cylinder (3) . Place the stick cylinder in position on the boom and stick. Make sure that the pin bores in the stick cylinder are aligned with the pin bores in the stick and the boom.
Illustration 2 g00358772
Apply 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on pin assemblies (2) and (5) . Temporarily install the two pin assemblies. Do not remove the hoist from the stick cylinder at this time.
Illustration 3 g00359853
Typical example
Slide the stick cylinder to one side until the stick cylinder makes contact with the boom and the stick. Measure the total clearance between the stick cylinder and the boom at the pin bore. Measure the total clearance between the stick cylinder and the stick at the pin bore. The total clearance of measurement (a) plus measurement (b) must not be more than 1.0 mm (.04 inch) at each pin bore. If the total clearance is less than 1.0 mm (.04 inch), the addition of shims between the stick cylinder and boom or between the stick cylinder and stick will not be required. If the total clearance is more than 1.0 mm (.04 inch), the addition of shims between the stick cylinder and boom or between the stick cylinder and stick will be required.
Remove pin assemblies (2) and (5) , if shims are required. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Stick Cylinder - Remove" in this manual. Install the shims between the stick cylinder and the boom or between the stick cylinder and the stick on the side opposite the retaining bolt for the pin assembly. Install the spacers and pin assemblies (2) and (5) . Install retaining bolts (1) and (6) that hold the pin assemblies in position. Tighten bolts (1) and (6) to a torque of 325 40 N m (240 30 lb ft) .
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Check the condition of the O-ring seals in hose assemblies (4) . If the seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement. Connect hose assemblies (4) to the stick cylinder. Connect lubrication line (7) to the stick cylinder.
Fill the hydraulic oil tank with oil to the correct level. Lubricate the support pins for the stick cylinder. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure to fill the hydraulic oil tank.
Start the machine, and run the machine at low idle speed. Move
