(21) Torque for eight bolts ... 60 4 N m (44 3 lb ft)Adjustment Of The Brake Mechanism
If the mechanism has been assembled with new parts, or shims (23) behind plate (22) have been lost, make the adjustment that follows:1. Install a 9.52 mm (.375 in) diameter rod through holes (C) in support assembly (17) and bell crank (18).2. Hold rear lever assembly (24) against stop (D) of the support assembly.3. Hold lever assemblies (25) apart to remove movement (slack) in the linkage.4. Measure distance (E) between right lever assembly (24) and plate (22) with a feeler gauge. Distance (E) must be ... 0.25 0.13 mm (.010 .005 in)5. Add or remove shims (23) between plate and support assembly to get correct distance (E).6. Remove the rod from holes (C).7. See Adjustment Of The Brakes.Adjustment Of The Brakes
1. Remove pins (3) from rod assemblies (4) and levers (11).2. Turn socket (15) clockwise until brake band (26) is tight on the brake drum. Then turn socket (15) counterclockwise one and one-half turns or nine clicks (the noise heard when a detent is felt).3. Check the length of rod assemblies (9). Distance (B) between the centers of the pins on each end of the rod assemblies must be about 1113 mm (43.8 in). Adjust the length of rod assemblies (9) if it is needed. Levers (16) will be in a vertical position when rod assemblies (9) are adjusted correctly.4. Adjust three vertical rods (2) so distance (A), from the pedals to the rear face of the dash, is 6.0 mm (.24 in). Make sure that vertical rods (2) are against stops (10) before a measurement is made.5. Move levers (11) as far to the rear of the machine as possible. Make sure brake bell cranks (13) are against steering bell cranks (14).6. Adjust rod assemblies (4) to the longest length that permits pins (3) to fit freely. Turn rod assemblies (4) one turn to make them shorter. Connect rod assemblies (4) to levers (11).7. Adjust rod assembly (1) so that pawl (8) engages ratchet (12) when the transmission lock lever is in the down position and both brakes are in the activated position (pedals are pushed down).8. Remove pins (7) from rod assemblies (5) and levers (6).9. Use rod assemblies (5) to push pawls (19) down until they come in contact with ratchet (20). With the transmission lock lever in the down position and both brakes in the activated position, adjust rod assemblies (5) to the longest length that permits pins (7) to fit freely. Connect rod assemblies (5) to levers (6).10. Make sure all lock nuts are tight.Adjustment Of The Steering Clutch Control Linkage
1. Make sure the pedals are adjusted correctly and rods (2) are against the stops.2. Remove pins (30) from rod assemblies (27) and levers (28).3. Move levers (28) down and toward the rear of the machine until they are against the stops.4. Adjust rod assemblies (27) to the longest length that permits
