Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
Install the crankshaft main bearings dry when clearance checks are performed. Apply clean engine oil on the crankshaft main bearings for final assembly.
Install the upper halves of the crankshaft main bearings in the engine block.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to crankshaft (4). The weight of the G3304B crankshaft is approximately 65 kg (145 lb). The weight of the G3306B crankshaft is approximately 85 kg (185 lb).
Place crankshaft (4) in the cylinder block. Ensure that the timing mark on crankshaft gear (1) is in alignment with the timing mark on camshaft gear (2).
Apply clean engine oil to the thrust plates and install the thrust plates in position. Install the lower halves of the crankshaft main bearings in main bearing caps (3). Note: Ensure that the part number on the main bearing cap is facing toward the front of the engine. Also, ensure that the number on the main bearing cap matches the number on the cylinder block on the left side of each main bearing cap.
Place main bearing caps (3) in position. Apply clean engine oil on the bolt threads and the face of the washers. Install the bolts. Tighten the bolts to torque of 41 4 N m (30 3 lb ft).
Place a mark on both the bolt heads and main bearing caps. Turn each bolt for an additional 90 degrees.
Check the end play of the crankshaft with Tooling (B). End play must be 0.122 to 0.579 mm (0.0048 to 0.0228 inch). End By:
Install the pistons and connecting rods.
Install the front housing.
Install the flywheel housing.
