Loading on a Trailer
Automatic Engine Speed Control (AEC) will increase engine speed automatically when you operate the control levers and/or travel pedals with AEC switch ON.When loading and unloading machine from truck or working in close quarters always turn AEC switch OFF to prevent any possibility of sudden movement of machine, which could result in serious injury or death.
Check the travel route for adequate over-pass clearances. Block the trailer or flatcar wheels before loading the machine. Remove ice, snow or slippery material from the loading dock and trailer, or flatcar before loading. The AUTOMATIC ENGINE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH must be in OFF position during loading the machine on a trailer.Basic standard machine shipping specifications are listed below.E 110
Loading or Unloading
1. Choose as flat ground as possible for loading or unloading the machine.2. When using loading plates, be sure there is adequate length, width, firmness and slope.3. Maintain the slope of loading plates within 15 degrees.4. Be sure to put the machine in such position that it can run straight on the loading plates. Travel motor side should be to the front when asending, and rear when desceding. Never operate control levers other than the travel lever while the machine is on the loading plates.5. When the machine is on the joint area of the loading plates and trailer body, use special care of the balance point of the machine.6. Be sure to have the swing lock pin engaged after loading.7. Be sure to chock both tracks, install tie - downs at several locations and fasten wire rope cables to prevent rolling or sudden movement of the machine.Loading a Clamshell Machine
Always use a ramp. Never apply down pressure through the boom and clamshell linkage, to raise the machine onto trailer. When laying the clamshell on its side, be sure hoses are not trapped between the fork bracket and the trailer or flatcar bed when laying the clamshell on its side.
Tie hoses to the fork bracket to prevent damage.Securing the Machine
Comply with regulations governing length, width, height and weight of the load.Lower the implements. 1. Align the upper structure with the track and engage the swing lock pin.
Upper structure movement can cause personal injury or death. To prevent structure movement, inspect to be sure the pin is engaged.
2. Move the hydraulic control back to the locked position. 3. Move the travel control lever back to the locked position. 4. Stop the engine. Turn the starter key switch off and remove the key. 5. Lock all caps, doors and compartments. 6. Install the vandalism guards to the front window and cab door and lock them. 7. Block the tracks. Secure the machine with tie downs.Fasten all loose or removed parts securely to the trailer or flatcar.
In freezing weather, protect the cooling system with antifreeze, to the lowest outside expected temperature on the travel route. Or, drain the cooling system completely.
Lifting the Machine
Make sure the lifting cables and other lifting devices are strong enough to support the machine.Consult your Caterpillar dealer for the proper lifting
