The parking brake switch is an input of the Power Train/Chassis ECM. The parking brake switch sends a signal to the Power Train/Chassis ECM. The Power Train/Chassis ECM engages or disengages the parking brake. The parking brake is engaged when the switch is in the ON position. The parking brake is disengaged when the switch is in the OFF position.The parking brake switch is a double pole, double throw switch. When the parking brake switch is moved to the ON position, connector contact 2 is closed to frame ground and connector contact 6 is open. The Power Train/Chassis ECM will engage the parking brake. When switch is in the OFF position, connector contact 2 is normally open (N/O) and connector contact 6 is normally closed (N/C) to frame ground. The Power Train/Chassis ECM will disengage the parking brake.Connector contact 2 is connected to J2-29 of the ECM. Connector contact 6 is connected to J2-28 of the Power Train/Chassis ECM. Connector contacts 3 and 4 are connected to frame ground. Connector contacts 1 and 5 are not used.Note: The normally closed (N/C) circuit and normally open (N/O) circuit of the parking brake switch are used for diagnostic purposes. A circuit failure is present if two circuits are open at the same time or if two circuits are grounded at the same time. This fault is then shown on the display of the Caterpillar Monitoring System.

The front service brake and retarder oil pressure switch and rear service brake and retarder oil pressure switch are inputs of the Power Train/Chassis ECM. The front pressure switch connects to connector contact J2-44. The rear pressure switch connects to connector contact J2-45. The pressure switches are normally open to ground and close when the retarder or service brakes are applied.
