Hoist, Converter and Brake Hydraulic System
Change Oil, Breather and Clean Fill Cap
The machine must be level, the parking brake engaged and the engine stopped. 1. Remove the cap to prevent a vacuum in the tank. Install the cap after the tank is drained to prevent dirt from entering the system. 2. Remove the tank drain valve plug. Open the drain valve by installing a 1 1/4 inch NPT pipe nipple, 88 mm (3.50 inches) long, in the bottom of the tank, to open the internal drain valve. Drain the oil.3. Remove the pipe nipple, clean and install the drain plug.4. Remove the hoist, converter and brake tank filler cap.5. Remove the filler screen retaining ring. Remove the screen.6. Wash the cap and filler screen in clean, nonflammable solvent. Allow them to dry.7. Inspect the cap seal. Use a new seal if the used one is damaged. Install the filler screen and the retaining ring.8. Fill the hoist, converter and brake hydraulic tank. See "Lubricant Viscosities" and "Refill Capacities."9. Start the engine and run it at low idle. Check for leaks.10. Maintain the oil level to the FULL mark in the sight gauge. Add oil if necessary. Install the filler cap. 1. Remove the cover. Clean the cover in clean, nonflammable solvent.2. Discard the breather element. Install the new element and cover.Air Dryer (If Equipped)
Change Desiccant
The desiccant cartridge should be rebuilt or replaced when it can no longer absorb water.Consult your Caterpillar dealer for repair kits and instructions.Differential and Final Drives
Change Oil
The differential and final oil change period can be extended to no change, if monitored with the S O S (Scheduled Oil Sampling) program. 1. Position each rear wheel, in turn, with the drain plugs down.2. Remove the final drive drain plugs. Drain the oil. 3. Remove the differential drain plug. Drain the oil.4. Clean and install all of the drain plugs. 5. Remove the differential fill plugs and final drive plugs. Fill the differential and final drives to the bottom of the fill plug openings. See "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities."6. Clean and install all fill plugs.7. Operate the machine on level ground for a few minutes.8. Stop the machine and remove the fill plugs.9. Observe oil level.10. Add oil if necessary. Install fill plugs.Wash Breather
Remove the breather and wash it in clean, nonflammable solvent. Install the clean breatherFront Wheel Bearings

The front wheel bearings oil change period can be extended to no change, if monitored with the S O S (Scheduled Oil Sampling) program. 1. Position the front wheel with the drain plug down.2. Remove the drain plug.3. Drain the oil.4. Clean and install the drain plug. 5. Remove the fill plug.6. Fill the compartment to the bottom of the fill plug opening. See "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities."7. Clean and install the fill plug. Use the same procedure for the other front wheel bearing.Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS)
Inspect ROPS/Tighten Bolts
1. Inspect for any loose or damaged bolts. Replace damaged bolts or missing bolts with original equipment
