B     290-9703     Extraction Tool     1    There are a number of instances of the 291-6570 Liquid Level Sensor As being wired incorrectly. The battery (-) and switched battery (+) wires may have been transposed.If the water level in the primary fuel filter water separator bowl reaches the sensor activation point, then the sensor will not send a signal to the Electronic Control Module (ECM).Note: Ensure that the primary fuel filter water separator is drained daily. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Primary Filter/Water Separator - Drain".

View of the harness connector for the WIF sensor (1) WIF sensor signal (2) Battery (-) (3) Switched battery (+)At the next service for the machine, perform the following steps to check the wiring for the WIF sensor:
Disconnect the connector for the WIF sensor.
Use Tooling (A) to measure the resistance between terminal 2 on the harness connector for the WIF sensor and engine ground.If the multimeter indicates continuity, then the wiring for the WIF sensor is OK.If the multimeter indicates an open circuit, use Tooling (B) to install the wires in the correct positions.Refer to Illustration 1 and Illustration 2 for the correct wiring of the WIF sensor.
