FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENTCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates. Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires and tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all lines, hoses and tubes to prevent the loss of fluids, and to prevent foreign material from entering the system. Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage or disposal. Check the condition of all O-ring seals that are in any lines, hoses or tubes disconnected during this procedure. If any of the seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.1. Open the left side engine compartment side door. 2. Open left side engine compartment shield.
Typical Example3. Use Tool (A) to remove oil filter (2) from filter base (3). 4. Disconnect oil line (4) from oil filter base (3). 5. Remove bolts (5) and (6), the washers and the brackets that hold wire harness (7) and ground wire (8) to the engine. Identify bolt (5), as it has to be installed in the same location of removal. 6. Remove bolt (9) and the washer that hold ground wire (8) to the engine. Move wire harness (7) and ground wire (8) out of the way.7. Remove bolts (10) that hold oil filter base (3) to the engine. Remove oil filter base (3)and its gasket from the engine. If the gasket is damaged, replace it with a new part. 8. Remove oil cooler (11) from the engine. 9. Remove O-ring seals (12) from the engine. 10. Remove plugs (13) and (14) from oil filter base (3). 11. Remove O-rings (17) from plugs (14). Remove bypass valves (15) and springs (16) from oil filter base (3). For installation of the oil filter, oil filter base and the oil cooler, reverse the removal steps.
