When submitting claim for Parts Stock Action, Use the appropriate 99Z as the s/n, the appropriate Service Letter Program Number as the Part number in the Part Causing Failure field, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Description Code.
The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program.Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.

PROBLEM
Certain cylinder head assemblies and cylinder head groups used on 3606, 3608, 3612, 3616, C280-6, C280-8, C280-12, and C280-16 engines may have a casting flaw which can lead to failure. If the existing cylinder head fails it can allow jacket water to enter the cylinder or combustion gas to enter the coolant.
ACTION REQUIRED
Inspect the part numbers that are listed in Image1 in dealer parts stock.
Inspect the part numbers in Image1 for the packaging date code and determine if it is in the range specified in Image1. Refer to Image2 for the location of the packaging date code.
If a cylinder head assembly or cylinder head group does not have an affected packaging date code, then the component is acceptable for use.
If a cylinder head assembly or cylinder head group does have an affected packaging date code, open the crate and inspect the air intake runner.
If the head has the "FW" logo on the air intake runner, then the head is acceptable for use. Return the cylinder head to dealer parts stock.
If the head does not have the "FW" logo on the air intake runner, the cylinder head must be removed from dealer parts stock. Refer to the Parts Disposition.

Submit one claim for all parts removed from dealer parts stock.
PARTS DISPOSITION
***** NACD *****
Hold all cylinder heads that are removed from dealer parts stock for a Parts Return Request (PRR). A Parts Return Request (PRR) will be issued to you through the Send-It-Back process after the claim is submitted. Make sure to list the service letter program number on the packing slip and include the closed work order paperwork.
***** EAME, LACD, and APD *****
Hold all cylinder heads that are removed from dealer parts stock for 30 days for a possible Parts Return Request (PRR). Make sure to list the service letter program number on the packing slip and include the closed work order paperwork.
If a Parts Return Request (PRR) is not issued to you after 30 days through the Send-It-Back process, handle the parts in accordance with your warranty bulletin on warranty parts handling.
