Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Illustration 1 g01082129Note: Refer to Special Instruction, REHS0116, "Removal and Installation of HEUI Injectors" for information for the removal of the carbon from the unit injector sleeve.
Use Tooling (B) to check the amount of carbon in the unit injector sleeve. Tooling (B) must come in contact with the top of unit injector sleeve (10). Use Tooling (C) to remove carbon in the seat of the unit injector.
Install the O-ring seals on the unit injector.
Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine oil.

Install unit injector (9) in the cylinder head.

Install clamp (7) and bolt (6).
Install O-ring seals (5) and (8).
Lubricate O-ring seals (5) and (8) with clean engine oil.

Install elbow (2), bolts (1), and capscrews (3).
If cap (11) was removed for any reason, tighten the bolts for the unit injector to the following torques:
Tighten Capscrews (3) to a torque of 1 0.2 N m (9 2 lb in).
Tighten Bolts (12) to a torque of 5 3 N m (44 27 lb in).
Tighten Bolts (1) to a torque of 5 3 N m (44 27 lb in).
Again, tighten Capscrews (3) to a torque of 12 3 N m (9 2 lb ft).
Again, tighten Bolts (12) to a torque of 47 9 N m (35 7 lb ft).
Again, tighten Bolts (1) to a torque of 47 9 N m (35 7 lb ft).
Install harness assembly (4). Note: Make sure that you use the correct harness assembly for the correct cylinder.Note: The harness assembly that is for the injector toward the front of the base is marked with white paint. The harness assembly that is for the injector toward the rear of the base is marked with a small "R".Tighten the nuts for harness assembly (4) to a torque of 1.70 0.25 N m (15 2 lb in).End By:
Install the valve mechanism cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install".
