Remove seal (7) from cage assembly (3).

Reposition cage assembly (3). Remove bolts (8), plate (9), and O-ring seal (10).

Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press in order to remove bearing cones (11) and the cup from cage assembly (3).
Illustration 7 g00834594Note: If the shaft is not supported, the shaft will fall when bolt (13) is removed.
Position transfer case (12), as shown. Support shaft (14). Remove bolt (13), the retainer, and shaft (14).
Remove gear (15) from transfer case (12).

Use Tooling (B) to remove bearing (16) from shaft (14).

Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to cage (18). The weight of cage (18) and the pinion is approximately 34 kg (76 lb). Remove cage (18) and the pinion as a unit. Remove the shims.

Remove bolts (19), plate (20), and bearing cone (21).

Use Tooling (D) and a suitable press to remove cage (18) from pinion (22).

Use Tooling (E) in order to remove bearing cone (23) from pinion (22). Use Tooling (E) in order to remove bearing cone (24) from pinion (22).

Remove retaining ring (25) to remove bearing cup (26) from cage (18).

Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press to remove the bearing cup from cage (18).

Remove plug (27) and the dowel that holds the race in position.
