D9L TractorsTo make sure that there is good lubrication of the Duo-Cone seals at first operation, extra oil is used in the final drives for D8L and D9L Tractors at assembly. This increased oil level is in effect on machines with Serial Numbers 53Y828 and 14Y644.
For this reason, a different method is needed to check the oil level. Remove the 9P3474 (D8L) or 3P8822 (D9L) Center Cover from the final drive. The oil level is acceptable if it is at the bottom of the center hole in the planetary carrier. When oil is added, the fill hole must be above the center line of the axle.
This increased oil level is necessary for only the first period of operation on a new or rebuilt final drive. When it is time for the first oil change, follow the recommendations in the machines' respective Lubrication and Maintenance Guides.
