Information:


Personal injury or death can occur from a component falling during removal or installation.Do not allow personnel under a suspended component during removal or installation.Make sure that the lifting device is in good condition and is capable of handling the weight of components.
Serious injury or death may result from a drill pipe that is not properly secured to the rotary head.Make sure that the drill pipe is secured to the rotary head before operating the machine.
Do not allow personnel near a rotating drill pipe.May cause serious injury or death.
For information regarding the operator controls, refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Operator Controls"Install the Drill Bit
Note: Ensure that the drill string is clear of all personnel before rotating.
Position the mast in the vertical position. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Mast Operation" for additional information.
Attach a drill pipe to the rotary head. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Drill Pipe - Add and Remove" for additional information.Note: Use the appropriate drill string SUBs for the application.
Raise the drill pipe above the bit basket and then remove the bit basket.Note: If equipped with a Hydraulically Operated Bit Basket ("HOBB"), raise the drill pipe above the HOBB and then retract the HOBB.
Lower the drill pipe through the deck bushing until the first set of flats are below the dust hood.
Insert the horseshoe tool onto the drill pipe flats
Lift the deck bushing and install the bit basket in the deck opening.Note: If equipped with a Hydraulically Operated Bit Basket ("HOBB"), extend the HOBB into position over the drill hole.
Using the winch or crane, insert the bit into the bit basket, or the "HOBB" if equipped. Remove the lifting bell if used.
Grease the threads of the drill bit and lower the drill pipe onto the drill bit threads.Note: Ensure that the drill bit threads are fully engaged to avoid cross threading.
Slowly rotate the drill pipe clockwise to tighten the drill bit onto the drill string. Tighten the drill bit to 207 bar (3000 psi) on the rotary hydraulic pressure gauge.
Raise the drill pipe and remove the bit basket.Note: If equipped with a "HOBB", raise the drill pipe and retract the "HOBB".Remove the Drill Bit
Note: Ensure that the drill string is clear of all personnel before rotating.
Position the mast in the vertical position. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Mast Operation" for additional information.
Lower the drill pipe below the dust hood and engage the horseshoe tool onto the flats of the bit.
Lift the deck bushing and insert the bit basket.Note: If equipped with a "HOBB", extend the "HOBB" into position over the drill hole.
Lower the drill pipe until the drill bit is in the bit basket or if equipped, the "HOBB".
Use the Hydraulically Operated Breakout Wrench "HOBO" to loosen the drill bit from the drill string.
Slowly rotate the drill pipe counterclockwise and slowly raise the drill pipe until the drill bit falls into the bit basket or if equipped, the "HOBB".
Use the winch or crane to remove the removed drill bit.
Dispose of, or store, the removed
