Hydraulic Implement System
Look at the Fluid Level
Hot fluid can cause burns. At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Remove the fill cap only when the engine is stopped, and the cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.
The warning label by the hydraulic tank fill cap reads as follows:
This reservoir contains a water-glycol fire resistant fluid. DO NOT ADD OTHER HYDRAULIC FLUIDS.See maintenance guide for correct drain and fill procedure.
Never start the machine, if the fluid is not visible in the sight gauge, to avoid any pump damage.Water-glycol fluid must not be mixed with petroleum base oil. If the system becomes contaiminated with petroleum based products, shut down the machine immediately. Oil contamination mixed with water-glycol will cause a sludge that plugs filters. Also, it will decrease the effectiveness of the fluid for fire resistance.Contact your Caterpillar dealer for proper procedure to flush and clean the system if contaminated.Since the commercially available water-glycol fluids do vary some in their properties, avoid mixing fluids whenever possible. Your fluid supplier can furnish information regarding the necessary tests for proper maintenance of the fluid being used.
1. Maintain the fluid to the ADD mark in the sight gauge.Fire resistant hydraulic fluid (water-glycol) should be checked and fluid added (as necessary) at the beginning of the shift when fluid is cool, if possible. 2. If necessary to add fluid, tilt the cover back. Remove the fluid fill cap. Add fluid through the fill tube.Fuel Tank
Fuel Filling and Dirt Removing
Remove any dirt from the boot area around the fuel cap. Dirt soaked with fuel could be a potential fire hazard. 1. Lift the fuel cap retainer from cap and tilt the cap back. 2. Remove the dipstick and maintain the fuel to the 80% mark on the dipstick. 3. Close the fuel cap and latch.Engine Air Precleaner
Remove Dirt Accumulation
