TUBE AS-TURBOCHARGER 2779941 - Caterpillar

The air conditioning system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. HEAT MUST NEVER BE APPLIED TO A CHARGED SYSTEM. The system is charged with Freon-12 (CCL2F2-Dichlorodifluoromethane) which is not toxic or flammable. There is, however, a reason for warning. When Freon-12 makes contact with a flame, lethal phosgene gas is made. INHALING FREON THROUGH A LIGHTED CIGARETTE CAN CAUSE VIOLENT ILLNESS. To prevent possible personal injury, always wear goggles and do not smoke when the air conditioning system is opened.
1. Release the Freon-12 from the system. See AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATING, Purging The System, Form No. SENR7454. 2. Remove cover assembly (1) and two filter assemblies.3. Loosen setscrew in each of the knobs (2) and remove three knobs (2). 4. Loosen cover assembly (3) and flange (4). 5. Disconnect the wire harness connector that holds cover assembly (3) and remove cover assembly (3).6. Remove ten nuts and washers (5) that hold the air conditioner. 7. Install tooling (A) in cover assembly (6).8. Remove bolts, washers and clips that hold cover assembly (6).9. Remove cover assembly (6). The weight of the cover assembly is 42 kg (92 lb). 10. Disconnect refrigerant lines (8) and install covers for protection in the openings.11. Disconnect heater hoses (9).12. Disconnect condensate drain lines (7) at each of the four corners of the air conditioner. 13. Install tooling (B), chains and hoist to the air conditioner unit (10) and lift it from the machine. The weight is 47.5 kg (105 lb.).Install Air Conditioner And Filter
1. Install tooling (A) in the top of air conditioner (1). Fasten chains and a hoist to air conditioner (1). Raise the top of the cab and lower into position. 2. Remove the covers for protection and install refrigerant lines (3).3. Connect heater lines (4) and connect four condensate drain lines (2). 4. Install ten nuts and washers (5) that hold the air conditioner in place.5. Connect the wire harness connector (6) for cover assembly (7). 6. Install cover assembly (7) and flange assembly (8). 7. Install knobs (9) and tighten the setscrews.8. Install two filter assemblies and cover assembly (10). 9. Install tooling (B) in cover assembly (11) and fasten drain and hoist.10. Put cover assembly (11) in position and install the bolts, washers and clips for the wires.11. Charge the air conditioning system. See AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATING, Form No. SENR7454.
