The 6V3150 Engine Pressure Group, when used with the 6V2100 Multitach and a continuity indicator, replaces the former 4S6553 Engine Evaluation Test Group, which is no longer serviced. The 6V3150 Group can be used to check the performance of diesel and natural gas engines and make operating adjustments to natural gas engines. See Special Instruction Form SEHS7341, "USING THE 4S6553 ENGINE EVALUATION TEST GROUP" for reference information on the connection of the instrument to the engine and the test procedures necessary to check engine performance.The gauges in the 6V3150 Engine Pressure Group are "gauge" pressure instruments that indicate pressure relative to ambient atmospheric pressure. This type of gauge will read "zero" when the pressure port is open to the atmosphere. The 4S6997 Gauge in the former 4S6553 Engine Test Kit was an "absolute" pressure gauge that indicated pressure relative to absolute zero pressure. A gauge of this type reads atmospheric pressure, about 760 mm (30 inches) of mercury or 101 kPa (14.7 psi), when the pressure port is open to the atmosphere.Engine "boost" or manifold pressure is the difference between atmospheric pressure and the pressure in the engine intake manifold. The new 6V3150 Engine Pressure Group can read boost directly in kPa (use the chart in the lid to convert kPa to inches of mercury as shown in the Rack Setting Chart) without subtracting atmospheric pressure as was previously necessary when using the 4S6553 Engine Test Kit.
