Perform the following steps before you attempt to replace the sensor.
Move the machine to a flat, solid surface. Fully retract the boom.
Before you attempt to install a new sensor, read the removal instructions and the surface preparation.
Before you install the sensor, ensure that the sensor and the axle are at the same relative temperature. This can be achieved by installing the sensor loosely to the axle for approximately five minutes without adhesive. Install the sensor per the following instructions.
After you complete the installation of the sensor, connect the sensor to the machine harness.Removal Instructions
Disconnect the sensor from the machine harness. Remove any cable straps that secure the sensor to the harness. Remove the two bolts that hold the sensor to the axle. Use a small chisel in order to break the retaining compound at the removal chamfer that is on the mounting pads. You can break the retaining compound on the opposite side of the mounting pads in order to remove the sensor. Make sure that the mounting surface does not contain any wear scars. Make sure that the mounting surface is not damaged. Note: If additional force is needed in order to break the adhesive, twist the sensor in a plane that is parallel to the mounting surface. The sensor is strongest in the plane parallel to the mounting surface. Avoid lifting the sensor upward by one of the mounting pads.
Use a scraper in order to remove any adhesive that is on the mounting surface. Then, use abrasive paper on the mounting surface to remove any raised areas or marks. When you clean the mounting surface, make sure that no damage is done to the mounting surface. Refer to the "Surface Preparation" section for instruction in order to clean the mounting surface before you install the sensor. Surface Preparation
The machined surface on the axle that is the mounting surface must be clean, unpainted, and flat within 0.5 mm (0.02 inch). The mounting holes in the axle should be clean and free of any dirt. This ensures that the bolts do not bottom out when the bolts are fully tightened.
Make sure that the bolts fit correctly in the axle. Check the depth of the bolt holes in the axle. This will determine the bolt torque in the sensor installation. Refer to "Sensor Installation". Fully install one bolt into the axle. Place the sensor next to the bolt. Check that the bolt will clamp the sensor to the axle. Make sure that the bolt does not bottom out before clamping the sensor to the axle.Note: The sensor is attached to the axle by an adhesive that greatly reduces the long term movement of the sensor relative to the axle.
