Inspect the saw bar for signs of wear. The saw chain will attempt to follow the curve of the saw motor and the curve at the end of the saw bar. These locations are the areas of greatest wear. The edges of the saw bar will become sharp in these areas.Turn over the saw bar in order to extend the life of the saw bar. This should be done whenever the indicated areas of the saw bar are sharp. This will double the life of the saw bar.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Saw Bar-Remove/Install" for information on removing the saw bar.Check the idler sprocket that is located at the end of the saw bar for excessive play. Move the idler sprocket back and forth. Very little movement should be felt. If excessive play is evident, replace the saw bar.Note: If a saw bar is used with an excessively worn idler sprocket, the wear of the saw chain will be greatly increased. The saw chain could also come off of the saw bar if the idler sprocket is too worn.Check the saw bar for straightness. If the saw bar is bent, replace the saw bar.
