Clean
1. Open the engine access covers. 2. Loosen the breather outlet hose clamp (2) and remove the hose (1) from the breather (4).3. Loosen bolt (3), remove breather (4) and O-ring seal.4. Wash the breather in clean, nonflammable solvent.5. Shake, or use pressure air to dry the element.6. Check the condition of the O-ring seal and replace it if it is damaged.7. Install the O-ring seal and clean breather (4). Tighten bolt (3) to 14 3 N m (10 2 lb ft).8. Slide hose (1) on to breather (4) and tighten hose clamp (2).9. Close the engine access covers.Fuel System
Clean and Change Filters
Do not fill fuel filters with fuel before installing them. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
Wash the Primary Filter Element
1. Open the engine access covers. 2. Loosen the filter housing retaining nut.3. Remove the housing and element.4. Remove the element from the case.5. Wash the element and housing in clean, nonflammable solvent.6. Dry the element using pressure air - 205 kPa (30 psi) maximum.7. Clean the filter case base.8. Inspect the seal. Replace it if it is damaged.9. Insert the clean element.10. Install the element and case to housing.11. Retighten the retaining bolt to a torque of 24 4 N m (18 3 lb ft).Change Secondary Fuel Filter
1. Remove and discard the filter.2. Clean the filter mounting base. Be sure all of the old seal is removed.3. Coat the seal of a new filter with clean diesel fuel.4. Install the new filter by hand. When the seal contacts the base, tighten 3/4 turn more.There are rotation-index marks 90° apart on the filter. Use them as a guide for proper tightening.Clean the Fuel Inlet Screen
Typical Example1. Remove the plug with O-ring seal.2. Remove the fuel inlet screen.3. Wash the screen in clean, nonflammable solvent.4. Inspect the condition of the seal and replace it if it is damaged or worn.5. Install the screen and plug with seal.6. Prime the fuel system. See the next topic.Priming the Fuel System
1. Unlock and pull out the priming pump plunger.2. Operate the pump to fill the new filter with fuel. Continue pumping until resistance is felt, indicating the filter is full of fuel.3. Push the priming pump plunger down and lock it.4. Start the engine and look for leaks around the filter.5. Close the engine access covers.Fuel Tank Cap and Fill Screen
Clean
1. Open the access door on the right side of the machine. 2. Remove the cap and strainer.3. Wash the cap and strainer in clean, nonflammable solvent.4. Allow the breather inside the cap to dry, or use pressure air to dry.5. Install the strainer and fill cap.6. Close the access door.
