Description of Change: An improved primary fuel filter assembly has been introduced on the C4.4 and C6.6 engines. The new filter element has an improved level of filtration from twenty microns to ten microns. This change better maintains the service interval across both the secondary filter and the primary filter. The change was introduced in April 2008. The primary fuel filter bowl is not common for both canisters.Adaptable To: The new ten micron 308-7298 Water Separator and Fuel Filter As is now available and replaces 271-5076 Water Separator and Fuel Filter As .When the primary fuel filter is first installed, the new 308-7298 Water Separator and Fuel Filter As requires the new 310-5912 Bowl .After initial installation of the primary fuel filter, it will not be necessary to replace the 310-5912 Bowl. When the filter canister is replaced, 308-7298 Water Separator and Fuel Filter As must be installed. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Primary Filter (Water Separator) Element - Replace" for the correct procedure.The 271-5076 Water Separator and Fuel Filter As is no longer available.
