It is possible to remove the parking brake without removing the transmission. It is recommended that the parking brake area, transmission, fuel tank and swivel area be steam cleaned prior to any service work. This will reduce the possibility of contaminants entering the systems during the removal and installation of the parking brake.1. Move the machine to a flat, dry working area. Articulate the machine completely to the right thus exposing the left side of the machine and the fuel tank.2. Engage the parking brake. Block the front and rear tires.3. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to the topic "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" in this module. Although it is not required, it may be desirable to drain the right hydraulic oil tank to prevent loss of fluid because of the number and position of hydraulic lines which must be disconnected. Drain the hydraulic oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the tank is 174 liters (45 U.S. gal). 4. Disconnect and plug hose assembly (1) from parking brake (2). 5. Disconnect and plug hose assembly (3) from union at the bracket. 6. Disconnect and plug three hydraulic hose assemblies (4) at the plate. 7. Remove the bolt, washer and bracket (5) to move hydraulic hose assembly (3) for clearance purposes. 8. Remove three bolts (6) from plate (7). 9. Install three bolts (6) into plate (7) as shown, to release the parking brake. 10. Remove 17 bolts (8) and the washers. Do not remove two bolts (9). These bolts hold the cage and housing of the parking brake together. 11. Install Tooling (C) into two transfer gear case cover holes where two of bolts (8) were removed. The other end of Tooling (C) requires a wood block under it for level support. 12. Slide parking brake (2), out of the transfer gear case, along Tooling (C), until is in the position shown. 13. Install Tooling (A) and (B) to lift parking brake (2) as shown. Remove Tooling (C) from the transfer gear case cover, and remove it from parking brake (2). 14. Use Tooling (B) to lower parking brake (2) down below the right side steering cylinder. Remove the parking brake. The weight of the parking brake is 159 kg (350 lb). The following steps are for the installation of the parking brake.15. Apply 6V6640 Sealant to the mating surfaces of the parking brake and the transfer gear case cover.16. Install the parking brake in the reverse order of removal.17. Tighten 17 bolts (8) to a torque of 270 40 N m (200 30 lb ft).18. Install three bolts (6) in their original locations in the parking brake.Disassemble Parking Brake
