Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Open the hood. The water separator is located on the bottom of the primary fuel filter on the right side of the machine.
Open the drain valve on the bottom of the water separator bowl. Allow the water and the fuel to drain into a suitable container.
Close the drain valve. Note: The water separator is under suction during normal engine operation. Tighten the drain valve securely in order to prevent air leakage into the fuel system.
Close the hood. Note: The system will continuously monitor for water contamination in the fuel. The display screen will provide notification to the operator should contamination exist.Note: Even though the system continuously monitors for water contamination, a water drain should still be done ever 50 hours or weekly.
