Schematic of the "Torque Converter Pedal Position" sensor
This diagnostic code is associated with the "Torque Converter Pedal Position" sensor. The FMI 08 diagnostic code means that the electronic control module (ECM) has determined that the signal frequency not within the expected range. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The sensor has failed or wrong part number was installed on the machine.
Intermittent connections or poor connections.
The ECM has failed. A failure of the ECM is unlikely.Note: Ensure that the CID 1712 FMI 08 diagnostic code is active. This procedure can cause new diagnostic codes to be recorded. Ignore these created diagnostic codes. When the problem has been corrected, clear the created diagnostic codes.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SUPPLY VOLTAGE AT THE SENSOR
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Do not disconnect the sensor from the machine harness.
At the back of the connector for the sensor, insert 7X-1710 Multimeter Probes along supply contact A (wire K983-BU(Blue)) and return contact B (wire J842-BK(Black)). Measure the voltage.Expected Result:The voltage measurement is approximately 8.0 0.4 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage is approximately 8.0 0.4 VDC. The signal is OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The voltage is not approximately 8.0 0.4 VDC. The voltage is not correct.Repair: There is a problem in the power supply circuit in the machine harness. Refer to the complete Electrical Schematic of the machine. Check all the connectors that are in the sensor supply circuit and the return circuit. Ensure that all connections are clean, secure, and in good condition. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE RETURN CIRCUIT AND THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR THE SENSOR
Turn the disconnect switch and the key switch to the OFF position.
Remove the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probes from the back of the machine harness connector for the sensor.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the sensor. At the machine harness connector for the sensor, place a jumper wire from contact B (wire J842-BK(Black)) to contact C (wire H722-GN(Green)).
Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the ECM.
At the ECM harness connectors, measure the resistance from return contact J1-45 (wire J842-BK(Black)) to signal contact J2-35 (wire H722-GN(Green)).Expected Result:The resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms. The return circuit and the signal circuit are correct in the machine harness. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5 ohms. There is a problem in the machine harness.Repair: Either the return circuit wire J842-BK(Black)or the signal circuit wire H722-GN(Green)has a bad connection or an open in the machine harness. Refer to the complete Electrical Schematic of the machine. Examine all the connectors that are in the circuit. Ensure that the connections are clean, secure, and in good condition. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT CIRCUIT
The key start switch and the disconnect
