Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the crankcase guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankcase Guard - Remove and Install".Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Disconnect four hose assemblies (2) .
Disconnect electrical connector (1) .

Note: The engine was removed for photographic clarity.
Loosen pivot bolt (4) and bolt (5) .
Move gear pumps (6) toward the engine in order to release the tension on V-belt (3) .
Remove V-belt (3) from the pulley.
Remove bolt (5) .
Remove pivot bolt (4). Remove gear pump (6) .Installation Procedure

Install gear pump (6). Install pivot bolt (4). Do not tighten pivot bolt (4) at this time.
Install bolt (5). Do not tighten bolt (5) at this time.
Install V-belt (3) on the pulley.
Adjust the V-belt tension.Note: Check the tension of the fan drive belt. Use a Kent Moore Company BT-33-97 gauge. The correct tension for a new V-belt is 534 22 N (120 5 lb). The correct tension for a used V-belt is 400 44 N (90 10 lb). A used V-belt has been active over 30 minutes at rated speed.
Tighten bolt (5) and pivot bolt (4) .

Connect electrical connector (1) .
Connect four hose assemblies (2) .End By: Install the crankcase guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankcase Guard - Remove and Install".
