Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Crushing Hazard. Connect the steering frame lock between front and rear frames before servicing the machine in the articulation area. Disconnect the steering frame lock and secure it in the stored position before resuming operation. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or death.

Your machine is equipped with a quick drain valve for draining the pump drive oil. The quick drain valve allows the pump drive oil to be drained faster than the conventional method.
Park the machine on a level surface. Lower the bucket to the ground and engage the parking brake.

The valve is located on the right side of the machine on the front frame. Locate the correct male coupler and connect an oil pump to the fitting.
Turn on the oil pump and withdraw the oil from the tank. Dispose of the used oil properly.
Completely drain the front pump drive.
Turn off the oil pump. Clean the end of the male coupler. Conventional Drain

Park the machine on level ground. Lower the bucket to the ground. Engage the parking brake and stop the engine.

(1) Dipstick
(2) Drain Plug
Remove drain plug (2) from the pump drive housing. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container. Dispose of the used oil properly.
Completely drain the front pump drive.
Clean the drain plug and install the drain plug. Procedure for Refill

Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the correct amount of oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for the correct type of oil.

Open the access panel on the platform in front of the cab. Remove the dipstick (1) from the pump drive housing.
Fill the pump drive with half of the correct amount of oil.
Purge any air from the drain line. Collect any oil that is removed from the system.
Run the machine for 3 to 5 minutes.
Add any oil that was collected back into the system and continue to fill the system to the correct amount of oil according to the table.

While the engine is stopped, make sure that the oil level is between the "ADD" and "FULL" marks on the "ENGINE STOPPED" side of the dipstick (1).
Clean the dipstick and install the dipstick.
