Typical Example1. Fasten tool (A) and a hoist to idler (1).2. Remove the bolts and cap (2) from both sides of the idler.3. Remove idle (1). The weight of the idler is approximately 392 kg (862 lb).
Typical Example4. Remove two inserts (3) from the major bogie. The following steps are for the installation of the idlers.
Typical Example5. Align bolt clearance grooves (4) in insert (3) with the bolts holes in the major bogie, and install inserts (3). The hole in the idler shaft must be away from the major bogie when the idler is installed.6. Fasten a hoist and tool (A) idler (3). Put idler (1) in position in the major bogie.
Typical Example7. Align pins (6) in caps (2) with the hold in idler shaft (5). Put the cap in position on the major bogie, and install the bolts. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 2300 300 N m (1700 220 lb ft).End By:a. connection of trackDisassemble Idlers
Start By:a. remove idlers 1. Use a slow speed drill and a 12.7 mm (.50 in) drill bit, and remove plug (4) and stopper (3) from the end of the shaft.
The shaft will be free to fall when the retainers are removed.
2. Remove 12 bolts (2) and retainer (1) from both sides of the idler. 3. Remove O-ring seal (6) from retainer (1). If the Duo-Cone seals are to be used again, put identification marks on the seals so they can be assembled and installed in their original position.4. Put identification marks on the Duo-Cone seal. Remove Duo-Cone seal (5) from retainer (1). 5. Put identification marks on the Duo-Cone seal (7). Remove Duo-Cone seal (7) and toric stabilizer (8) from shaft (9). 6. Pull shaft (9) out of the idler far enough to fasten a hoist to the shaft.7. Fasten a hoist to shaft (9). Remove the shaft from idler assembly (10). The weight of the shaft is approximately 32 kg (70 lb).Assemble Idlers
Avoid prolonged skin contact with isopropyl alcohol. Avoid breathing the vapors in enclosed areas without adequate ventilation and do not smoke.Isopropyl alcohol is flammable. Do not use near open flame, welding operations, or around heated surfaces exceeding 482° C (900° F).
1. Clean and inspect all parts for wear or damage. Replace all parts that are worn or damaged.2. Make sure all parts are free of oil film, dust or other foreign material. Use isopropyl alcohol and a suitable cloth for wiping.
The bearing in idler assembly (10) can be damaged when shaft (9) is installed in the idler.
3. Fasten a hoist to shaft (9). Carefully put shaft (9) in position in idler assembly (10). 4. Put toric stabilizers (8) in position on both ends of shaft (9). See Installation Of Inverted Duo-Cone Floating Seals before installation of any of the Duo-Cone seals.5. Put toric ring (11) in position
